Pin Mill is famous as the inspiration for Arthur Ransome, the home of the Butt & Oyster and a film and TV location for the likes of Lovejoy.
This fame is deserved, as this part of the River Orwell is a truly beautiful location and excellent base for many pleasant cruises up the River. Woodbridge on the River Deben is an enjoyable days sail away as are the Walton Backwaters. The Rivers Ore and Alde with Orford and it's castle and Aldeburgh are a worthwhile trip. Southwold and Maldon are a bit further up and down the East Coast. Pin Mill is only 20 minutes away from Ipswich by road which, in turn is only an hour by train from London.
